A mocha (also known as caffè mocha) is an espresso-based coffee drink made with chocolate and milk. It combines the richness of coffee with the sweetness of chocolate.


Origin

The mocha is named after Mocha, Yemen, a historic coffee trading port known for coffee beans with natural chocolate notes. The modern café mocha developed as espresso drinks evolved.


How it’s made

  • One or two shots of espresso are brewed
  • Chocolate syrup or cocoa powder is added
  • Steamed milk is poured into the mixture
  • The drink is stirred until smooth
