Dalgona Coffee is a whipped coffee beverage made by mixing instant coffee, sugar, and hot water until a thick foam forms. The foam is then spooned over cold or hot milk, creating a layered drink with a creamy texture.

Origin

The beverage gained worldwide popularity in 2020 after spreading through social media. The name comes from a Korean honeycomb toffee called dalgona, which has a similar color and texture. Although the whipped coffee style existed earlier, the viral trend helped introduce it to a global audience.

How it’s made

Instant coffee, sugar, and hot water are combined in equal parts and whipped until the mixture becomes thick and foamy. Milk is poured into a glass and the whipped coffee foam is added on top. The drink is typically stirred before drinking so the foam mixes with the milk.

Taste profile

  • Sweet and creamy flavor
  • Strong coffee taste from the whipped foam
  • Light and airy texture on top
  • Smooth milk base

Variations
