A mocha (also known as caffè mocha) is an espresso-based coffee drink made with chocolate and milk. It combines the richness of coffee with the sweetness of chocolate.
Origin
The mocha is named after Mocha, Yemen, a historic coffee trading port known for coffee beans with natural chocolate notes. The modern café mocha developed as espresso drinks evolved.
How it’s made
- One or two shots of espresso are brewed
- Chocolate syrup or cocoa powder is added
- Steamed milk is poured into the mixture
- The drink is stirred until smooth
